Your role in the team

 

 

This is an Emerging Database Technologies Engineer role within the Data & Intelligent Systems (D&IS) area.  The Engineer creates database structures for medium to large projects, provides support in the day to day operational management of Database Technologies and aids in software maintenance lifecycle management with little to no assistance.  They analyze, consult and recommend different options for database performance tuning, database configuration implementation, creates and maintains scripts and test plan execution.   Participates in Enterprise incident, change and problem management activities.

 

  • Collaborate in the evaluation, selection and platform design of emerging database technologies with concentration in the NoSQL and cloud spaces.
  • Liaise, educate and advise business areas on platform selection, data design, enterprise strategy and data enablement.
  • Lead internal project efforts to determine technical scope and execution plan in partnership with sister organizations like security, architecture and infrastructure.
  • Lead incident, security and performance analysis.
  • Streamline redundant operations and automate recurring tasks through scripting and use of modern technologies.
  • Support initiatives in Agile frameworks across multiple business units.
  • Analyze database workloads, identify problem spots and design solutions to address these problems using monitoring and alerting tools for cloud based and on-premise deployments.
  • Educate and mentor other database administrators.

 

 

So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

 

 

  • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK
  • Have a minimum of 4 years’ experience as a data professional
  • Knowledge across multiple data store platforms
  • Familiarity with Cloud providers (particularly AWS) and open source automation software.
  • Some programming experience (Shell, Python, Java, etc.)
  • Experience working on cross functional teams

 

 

We also have some desirable criteria

 

 

  • Experience evaluating and implementing new technologies
  • Experience with one or more of the following NoSQL databases: MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis or Snowflake
  • Experience with one or more of the following technologies: GitHub, Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform, Cloud Formation, Python, Kafka, Spark, Kubernetes, Docker.
  • Experience with a programming framework like Unix Shell, Power Shell, Python, Java, NodeJS, etc.
  • Experience or certification with AWS solutions involving database platforms.
  • Experience with Agile, Pivotal Cloud Foundry and continuous delivery environments
  • Experience with 20+ TB databases
  • Experience with security standards and procedures like encryption, redaction and tokenization
  • Experience with the P&C insurance industry.
  • Experience with Project Management concepts and methodologies.
  • Experience documenting research analysis and results.
