Allstate operate a very flexible hybrid working policy that will allow you to design your working week in collaboration with your manager with a blend of remote and office working for NI based employees as well as condensed working patterns (4 day week/9 day fortnight). Your role in the team




Java fits within the Allstate Development Languages Direction and Allstate Target State Architecture implementation. In Allstate Java is depicted as the approved language for general development, cloud native and mobile implementations. To write Java code we must use Test Driven Development, as it is at the core for all development at Allstate, and we must follow good coding practices such as the SOLID principles and Design Patterns.


In line with Allstate development principles a Continuous Integration (Git/GitHub) and Continuous Development/Deployment (Jenkins) process must be followed. Now, more than ever before, we expose our Java code to the customer as Restful services using an API and this is where Allstate use the Spring Framework.


We are looking for talented Software Developer/Software Engineers with any object-oriented programming language experience to join our growing organization to help us improve our platforms and shape the way we operate. This role makes global impact across the entire enterprise as you deliver on the design, development, and management of our Java-based applications, however having hands on Java experience is not essential.


Successful candidates will participate in an onboarding programme to build and provide context of the core skills required for role, such as  Java, Java Spring Test-Driven Development approach, the standard practice of Continuous Integration and Continuous Development/Deployment (CI/CD) and how to expose Java code to our customers through Restful services, all while following industry standard good practices under the umbrella of  'clean code'.


Once completed, you will enhance your skills further through on the job learning and development.

So, what are the essential criteria to apply?


  • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK'
  • A minimum 4 years of experience software development experience in any object-oriented programing language e.g. Java, .NET, Python, C#, Ruby etc





We also have some desirable criteria



  • Experience working in standards-driven environments
  • Analytical and problem-solving.
  • Experience working within an Agile environment
  • RESTful API development
  • Testing (TDD/ JUnit / Mockito / REST Assured)
  • Web services, Unit /Integration Test, JUnit
