Your role in the team

 

Our test function continuously improves software quality for Allstate and is our identity for testing and release management.  We are constantly learning, believe in continuous improvement and seek to deliver the best in quality outcomes.  We’ll help you to make an impact by expanding your skills in ways you never thought possible all while having fun doing it.  This is a great opportunity to become familiar with one of our key customer facing products and platforms, along with an opportunity to play an active role in a very diverse and rapidly expanding technology base and make an impact on application teams delivering key features to our customers.

 

In this role, you will work on the early stages of a brand-new product, build from the ground up.  This is a long-term solution to support Allstate’s direct to consumer business using the latest technology and living into the company’s shared purpose.

 

We are looking for individuals with a strong desire to build better products, delight customers while learning and developing with us in a constantly evolving industry. The Test Engineer role is at the core of Allstate’s transformation; it will help us deliver innovative engineering solutions through automated testing, be part of continuous integration and deployment, design automated test data and virtualization and automated release management and governance via dynamic cloud-based infrastructures.

 

 

  • Planning and designing testing strategies for business solutions with varying complexities.
  • Identifying specifications of the testing requirements for environment, data, functions, and tools.
  • Perform functional and regression testing activities while monitoring software quality with metrics.
  • Partner and communicate updates daily within highly performing agile teams that operate across various value streams designed to accelerate product development.
  • Responsible for defect/bug identification, documentation, communication and reaching resolution.
  • Contributes to an inclusive and collaborative environment, with local and remote partners, to turn acceptance criteria into simple, elegant, and optimal testing solutions at scale though automation.
  • Write and maintain automated test scripts for a changing product including cases to test API’s.
  • Involved in designing and implementing enhancements to the automated test frameworks.
  • Work closely with the application teams to identify opportunities to provide innovative testing solutions, which enable teams to achieve goals of continuous integration and delivery.
  • Participate in all agile events including stand-ups, PI/sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives.
  • Involve yourself in an environment where Test/Behavior-Driven Development is fostered
  • Work in a very fast paced development organization and in collaboration with all the Flight areas.

 

 

So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

 

  • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK'
  • 2+ years’ experience in a hands-on technical role within the Software Development Lifecycle
  • Have a testing background with experience of creating test strategies, test plans and requirements traceability documentation.
  • Scripting / Coding experience to achieve a quality product through automation.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Knowledge of least one Service testing tool e.g. SOAP UI, Ready API, etc
  • Experience of constructing automated test suites
  • Exhibits ability to pre-empt and anticipate problems with risk mitigation activities.
  • Customer focused with a talent for building excellent working relationships with business and technical stakeholders.
  • Experience creating clear and concise communications, relaying technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.

 

 

We also have some desirable criteria

 

  • Experience with Agile events including setting up CI/CD tools, pipelines and solutions.
  • Experience in test tools and frameworks such as Selenium, Python, Groovy, Java etc.
  • Experience with Service testing tools e.g. SOAP UI, Ready API, Postman etc.
  • Experience with GitHub, Maven, Jenkins, Octopus Deploy etc.
  • Experience using Test Management tools such as Version One, Jira, HPALM etc.
  • Aptitude with troubleshooting and diagnosing application and environmental issues.
  • Be detail-oriented with an ability to work accurately and efficiently under pressure.
  • Be forward-thinking and innovative with strong organizational and influencing skills.
  • Be flexible and adaptable to project needs and business requirement changes.
