Job Description


Are you enthusiastic about quality and want to make an impact in both technology and the business? Are you skilled in test automation? This role provides leadership and direction on test creation and execution across software development projects, focusing on functional and automated test scripts for high complex projects including database validation and web services testing. They are responsible for developing the test strategy and plan for the team and are the quality champion responsible for identifying acceptance criteria and defining the test conditions when stories or requirements are created.



We are looking for enthusiastic Test Engineers to partner with the development teams and ensure Allstate delivers a seamless and quality customer experience. We have exciting plans to leverage new technology and processes such as BDD and cucumber. Responsibilities include (but aren’t limited to):


  • Provide technical and strategic leadership around automation, best practices and solutions for low to extreme complexity projects
  • Create and expand on a defined automation framework to ensure quality of the software
  • Create and maintain automation test cases to ensure quality and support Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipeline
  • Decompose stories to be able to write effective acceptance criteria and automated test scripts
  • Provide input into and develop test strategy for low to extreme complexity projects
  • Quality advocate within their team and across the enterprise
  • Provide input into environment needs and provide direction on environment issues for low to extreme complexity projects
  • Understand issues related to the test infrastructure and escalate within team
  • Drive and participate in an environment where Behavior-Driven Development is adopted
  • Document, analyze and communicate bugs/issues accurately and clearly
  • Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels internal and external to their team including Developers and Project Managers
  • Mentoring others as the expert in their area across all teams
  • Assess areas within their remit and guide teams to anticipate and prevent potential issues and articulate dependencies to the stakeholders
  • Participate in Scrum Daily Stand-up, Sprint and iterative development activities – prepared to take on any role within an Agile team
  • Participate in Sprint planning, release planning, backlog refinement, retrospectives
  • Ability to work in a very fast paced development organization


Essential Criteria


  • Must be an EU citizen or possess a current UK Tier 1 Visa or Tier 2 visa and eligible to take up full time, permanent employment. EU candidates must also demonstrate they are eligible to take up UK employment post-Brexit.
  • Minimum 2 years software testing experience
  • Experience of agile scrum/XP methodology
  • Practical experience with at least one of the following areas: Java, C#, Python, Selenium
  • Demonstrate personal projects or experience utilizing automation tools (e.g. Eclipse, IntelliJ, Maven, TestNG, Selenium)
  • Strong understanding/experience of Behaviour Driven Development (e.g. Cucumber, Behat)
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience using test management tools (e.g. HPQC, Jira – Zephyr)
  • Experience with Source Code Management Tools (e.g. Git)
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Web Services in relation to software testing
  • Understanding of test environments, code build and code migration concepts
  • Understanding Program Increment (PI) Planning
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong analytical ability
  • Demonstrate experience of technical leadership mentoring junior members of the team


Desirable Criteria


  • Experience creating and executing test cases in at least one of the following areas: performance, stress load testing
  • Experience utilizing continuous integration tools (e.g. Jenkins)
  • Understanding/experience of performance testing tools (e.g. LoadRunner, ALM performance center, JMeter)
  • Knowledge or experience of Relational Database Management (e.g. Oracle, SQL, MySQL)
  • Industry knowledge & experience in Insurance and Telematics experience is a plus
