Job Summary:

Works with underwriters under supervised conditions to develop an understanding of the risk evaluation and management process. Become familiar with underwriting methods, formulas and techniques necessary for financial analysis and manual rate development. Become familiar with the various products through contract reviews, requested plan designs and benefit options. This position will lay the foundation for the Group Underwriter position.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and manipulate census data for input into various rating tools generating manual rates
• Evaluate requested and in-force plan designs for reasonability and appropriateness across multiple products
• Analyze data related to the risk for small cases, to determine what benefits, if any, can be offered and at what cost (rating)
• Using AB's workflow management tools, thoroughly document thought processes to support decisions
• Make case level recommendations using independent judgment as well as following underwriting guidelines
• Applies judgment to identify when deviation from standard practice is required
• Conduct research to secure additional data needed to make determinations on benefits and premiums
• Communicate with sales and various internal departments concerning underwriting decisions and procedures
• Develop relationships and establishing credibility with sales and colleagues
• Respond timely and accurately to requests made to the underwriting team while maintaining positive relationships with our internal and external customers
• Prepare proposals and/or offer information and coordinate final proposal presentation, including preparation of all required exhibits

Education and Experience:

• 0 - 2 years of related experience
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

• Good computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications

Compensation offered for this role is $42,600- $56,750 and is based on experience and qualifications.

The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation, which includes a drug screen.
