Job Summary


As an Employee of AVAIL, The Senior Manager - Insurance Strategy will be a key player in developing the strategy for the insurance side of the business. Avail is in a period of exciting growth. Insurance for platform users is a key enabler of this growth. When our users join Avail’s car-sharing platform, they expect a hassle-free and seamless insurance experience that handles both the risk associated with sharing their cars on the platform and from renting cars from the platform. To do this, it is critical for Avail to have a robust insurance strategy that covers typical risk scenarios for Avail’s users and provides them peace of mind from platform participation and utilization. This insurance strategy has to be economically viable, be suited to the unique potentialities of car sharing, leverage data and analytics, and scale and adapt as the platform grows.


Key areas for this role include driving the full spectrum of decisions on insurance operations to achieve the above objectives; integrating complex pricing, product and claims issues in the context of a fast-growing two-sided marketplace; and finding opportunities to bring together internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute a longer term strategy on insurance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Work with various stakeholders to deepen Avail’s insurance strategy
  • Align product, pricing, data analytics, claims operations and other aspects of the insurance value chain so as to solve various pain points and to develop and execute a seamless insurance experience which helps to scale the business
  • Work with senior leadership and engage internally and externally to get stakeholder buy-in on the insurance strategy
  • Work cross-functionally with product, engineering, marketing and other teams to embed Avail’s insurance approach within a holistic view of growing the business
  • Develop novel risk mitigation products for the fast-growing car sharing market as well as modern mobility scenarios
  • Actively contribute to insurance team decisions and initiatives
  • Lead idea generation, test design, test execution and implementation of Avail insurance efforts
  • Provide insights and perspective on key consumer, market, technology, and competitive trends in mobility and insurtech that will impact current and future Avail insurance strategies 


Preferred Qualifications


Education and Experience 

  • 7+ years work experience in an area that has exposure to mobility and/or insurtech and/or property & casualty insurance operations
  • Understanding of, and willingness to formulate product strategy in an ambiguously defined and fast changing environment
  • Mix of quantitative and qualitative skills and ability to formulate business strategy within a numbers-oriented culture
  • Interest in modern mobility marketplaces and the role of technology in enabling such markets
  • Automotive claims related experience a plus
  • Strong communication skills and strong ability to persuade and obtain influence without authority
  • Startup experience valued 
  • MBA preferred

Compensation Data


Compensation range for this position is $120,000 - $182,500 per year, based on experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for an annual bonus in addition to the base salary compensation range.
